We had a great reception from the community. Who purchased over $14,000 in art, donating 30% to AWE, (Artists Working in Education).
Over 62 artists
particpated who submitted over 96 pieces of beautiful artwork inspired by the neighborhood as far north as
Newberry and as far south as Ivanhoe and Villa Terrace. The western border was Prospect and the eastern border was into Lake Michigan for those artists with stilts or boats. They could paint around the clock from May 26, 8 am, to June 1, 4 pm when they could submit their work for jury and exhibition. Our gallery was so full, that people waited outside to get in on Saturday, June 2, 2007 when there was a silent auction from 10 am to 4 pm. On Sunday, June 3 an open sale provided others an opportunity to take home treasures from 1pm until 4 pm. Throughout the week there were gala receptions throughout the Downer area for the
Plein Aire Artists and for featured exhibiting
LMA studio artists. We are grateful for the receptions with art exhibits at Mosaic, Original Pancake House,
Eastcastle, the Milwaukee Catholic Home and
Café Hollander. I would like to also thank those who have had art exhibited in their store, like Bebe Boutique, Paperwork, Schwartz,
Starbuck's and
Lixx. The merchants were great and the neighbors revelled in seeing their neighborhood riddled with artists interpreting their turf.
Enjoy the view and come again to this Greater Milwaukee's Gala
Plein Aire Painting Competition
where ever the League of Milwaukee Artists decides to do it next year!
